I Know You’re Not Stupid…

with 4 comments

I know you’re not stupid. You’re not a mean person! You just never imagined that what you did would injure and affect so many innocent people. But you did.

  • The last thing you’d want to do is hurt anyone else.
  • You truly do love people.
  • People love you.
  • You would be offended if someone said you were clueless.
  • You would be ashamed if you knew you had hurt someone…  anyone.
  • Somehow you got it in your head that what you did didn’t hurt anyone but yourself.
  • It was private.
  • It was personal.
  • It’s just your problem.
  • You are working on it.
  • You also would prefer if no one talked about it in your presence.
  • After all one thing leads to another… accidents do happen.

Speaking of accidents. Have you ever seen traffic stopped for miles because one person had a problem? I have. I’ve been stopped in traffic for several hours. Cars did not move. Policemen, Fire Trucks, and Ambulances gather. Nothing can move till the Tow Truck gets there. Additional fender benders happen when drivers have to brake unexpectedly, even on the other side of the Highway. That requires additional police. Cars eventually stop and sit. People even go out of their cars and tossed a football, and walk the dog.

Traffic on the other side of the highway comes to a stop. Then the cars creep along, for no other reason then to gawk. A ‘gawker’s delay.’ The highway is shut down for as long as the eye can see because of one person.

  • Think of the missed appointments.
  • Think about employees late for work.
  • Think about the cars almost out of gas and the A/C can’t be used to cope with the weather.
  • Think about the embarrassed people with bathroom emergencies that have no options
  • Think about money the businessmen lost because they couldn’t make the appointment.
  • Think about the missed flights.
  • The list is unending.

1. Bitterness Affects More Than One

One person had a problem. One person made an error in judgment. Thousands of people are unwilling affected. You understand don’t you, that if one person has a root of bitterness, many will be defiled?

Heb. 12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

2. Backsliders Influence Those That Know Them

When someone backslides. The strong ones that love them are hurt. Those that are weak may follow in their wayward steps.

Why? Why does one life affect so many others? Remember Jesus saying that we were like sheep? Sheep follow.

God forbid that someone in leadership goes into error or has a personal shipwreck.

It’s like standing two dozen dominoes up on end and then pushing the first one down. More than likely, the rest will fall too.

Eccl. 9:18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.

3. Railers Affect All That Hear Them

1Cor. 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

Rail: To express objections or criticisms in bitter, harsh, or abusive language

4. False Doctrine Perverts Multitudes

2Pet. 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2Pet. 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

5. Worldliness Floods Too Many Churches

If someone loves the world, they will imitate the world. They will talk like it, they will look like it as well. Clothing that looks like it was designed for the immodest of Hollywood is too often appearing on our youth and on our platforms.

Go to a Youth Conference, for example, and if see someone dress in an outlandish or in a ‘don’t look Ethel’ manner, then you may not have to hold your breath until you see it again. It might even beat you back home.

I understand that just because something is new doesn’t mean it’s wrong. I also know that just because it’s new doesn’t mean it’s belongs on a Pentecostal.

6. The Recent Oil Rig Failure In The Gulf Will Damage The Gulf And Hurt Millions.

One oil rig failure, widespread problems.

When you make shipwreck of your life. You may not think so, but you have set in motion a series of harmful events. Your actions will hurt many and only eternity will be able to accurately declare it’s damage.

That is another reason why we all wish to hear the words, “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
