“Mom, Can I Use This Pan To Put Dirt In?”

with 5 comments

“Mom, Can I Use This Pan To Put Dirt In?”

Columbus, IN 1954…

“Mom, can I use this pan to put some dirt in? Me and Bobby Hungate are playing with our trucks in the back yard and we need something to put dirt in so we can move it.” I asked, holding a big shiny pan in front of me so Mom could see.

379620407_687I was in the fourth grade at Clifty Elementary School in Columbus, Indiana. The Hungate family lived across the street and their son Bobby was my good friend. We had already dug more holes in my back yard that day than two dogs looking for buried bones.

My Mother turned from her ironing board and looked at me as though she was surprised I would even ask.

“You certainly cannot, young man! That is my good pan. I fix stews, mashed potatoes, corn on saucepanthe cob and gumbo in the big pan. We sure don’t put dirt in our cooking pans. Now, you go look under the kitchen sink and find the old pan that has the blackened bottom. The handle is cracked on it too. Use that pan and when you are done with it, we will scrub it clean together.”

I replied meekly with a yes ma’am. I did as I was told. Later, Mom made me wash and scour the pan under her eagle eye supervision. This was my first introduction into the proper use of pans from a Mother’s point of view.

Columbus, IN 1956…

“Mama, Pandy’s dish got cracked and broken and I need to feed her tonight. This pan is all I can find. Is it OK to feed the dog out of this pan tonight?”

I held the big shiny pan out in front of me so Mom could see which pan I meant. She put down the evening newspaper and folded it on her lap. She then spoke to me without smiling.

“Son!  That’s my good pan! You cannot use that one and you should know better than to ask. My family eats out of that pan, I’ve already told you. I cook with that pan every day.

“We don’t put dirt in that pan, and we sure don’t feed the dog out of that pan. I am shocked that you would even think that was acceptable in this house.

“Go back under the sink and find that same pan you used to put dirt in. Feed the dog tonight out of that pan. You will have to scrub it with Ajax Scouring Powder and bleach it when you’re done. We’ll get Pandy a new dog dish tomorrow.”

I scrubbed that old pan and rinsed it many times that night before it met with Mother’s approval.

South Bend, IN 1962…

“Mom, I am changing the oil in my car. I can’t find a pan big enough in the garage. Would it be OK to use this pan to change my oil in?” I asked hesitantly, while holding the big shiny pan towards her so she could see.

She put her hands on her hips and looked at me like I was from Mars. I knew I was in big trouble.

“What’s wrong with you? You just don’t get it do you? That is my GOOD pan!” she said with great emphasis on the word ‘good.’

“We eat food from that pan everyday. That is my favorite pan. We don’t put dirt into that pan! We don’t feed the dog from that pan – even if he is a rare White or Albino German Shepherd mix that cost us quite a bit as a puppy! We sure don’t change the oil in that pan. Do you understand me?”

I immediately regretted asking. Nodding meekly I said, “Yes Ma’am. I’m sorry.”

“Now go back under the sink and find that old pan with the broken handle and blackened bottom. Use that one and when you’re done with it this time, just throw it away.”

Mama’s Life Lesson

She taught me that some things are set-aside for just one purpose. Oh sure, they can be used for another purpose if we choose. However, using a container for something other than what it was intended to be used for just ruins the purity of its purpose.

Our body is a vessel. It is meant to be set apart for His use, and His use only. God created our vessel to be a container filled with His Spirit and His Love. Sure, we can put drugs, alcohol and nicotine and worldliness in it if we choose. But, doing so just defiles the vessel.

*Something That Is Set Aside For One Purpose Has A Name.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Merriam Webster

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sanctify

sanc·ti·fy

1:  to set apart to a sacred purpose or to religious use :  consecrate

_________________________________________________________________________________

Being Set Apart For A Sacred Purpose Is Called Being Sanctified.

1 Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

1 Thessalonians 4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

Note: If there is no Sanctification in your life, there will an absence of Honor as well.

2 Timothy 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

2 Timothy 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Like I did as a child and teenager, many are asking their Mother (The Church) if it is OK if they use their life’s vessel to put the dirt of the world in. Once you have gotten comfortable with its dirt, there will be no stopping.

Some in this permissive church age never give up asking and trying to see how much they can get away with. Their mindset is all about pleasing themselves and not focusing on pleasing God.

If you have the Holy Ghost, then your life’s vessel has been set apart unto God for His use, His glory and His service. By defiling your life, your body and your mind with worldly things, you have just dirtied the very vessel God wanted to serve a hungry world from. He will get no glory from what is in your dirtied vessel.

Remember, you are not your own. You have been bought with a price. You are His vessel. You have been set apart. You are to be sanctified unto Him.

Do You Smell Like Jesus, Or Do You Just Stink At Being A Christian?

with 2 comments

Do You Smell Like Jesus, Or Do You Just Stink At Being A Christian?

Can you pass the smell test? The sense of smell is one of our five natural senses. Sometimes we use the smell test in order to determine if things around us are okay or if the food is spoiled. This is nothing new.  God has been using the smell test for a long time.  He knows the difference between a stench and a sweet smell.

KJV

2 Cor. 2:14-17

14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:

16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

2 Cor. 2:14-17

14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?

17 For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

2 Cor. 2:14-17

14 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.

15 For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing,

16 to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?

17 For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

2 Cor. 2:14-17

14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.

15 For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.

16 To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?

17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God.

The Message Bible

2 Cor. 2:14-17

14-16 In the Messiah, in Christ, God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade. Through us, he brings knowledge of Christ. Everywhere we go, people breathe in the exquisite fragrance. Because of Christ, we give off a sweet scent rising to God, which is recognized by those on the way of salvation—an aroma redolent with life. But those on the way to destruction treat us more like the stench from a rotting corpse.

16-17 This is a terrific responsibility. Is anyone competent to take it on? No— but at least we don’t take God’s Word, water it down, and then take it to the streets to sell it cheap. We stand in Christ’s presence when we speak; God looks us in the face. We get what we say straight from God and say it as honestly as we can.

King David’s One Line Autobiography

with 2 comments

King David’s One Line Autobiography

King David wasn’t young anymore. The gray showed in his hair. Wrinkles on his hands told the truth of his age. His moods had changed; his thinking now wasn’t focused on fulfilling his future dreams.

Now, he spent a lot of his private moments remembering all of his yesterdays. Somehow memories of his life’s failures occasionally crept into the forefront. Some of his sins were even knowledge.

His subjects knew of them, the historians had recorded them, and he even told on himself.

bwquillToday, in a moment of transparency uncommon for a king, David turned his thoughts to the times he had failed God, failed his subjects and shamed himself. Bathsheba’s name came to mind, as did her dead husband, Uriah. His encounter with Nabal had raised everyone’s eyebrows. Guilt was not a stranger to his thoughts.

He keenly remembered the preaching of Nathan the Prophet and the three days of God’s judgment and he was grateful for God’s mercy. He knew he didn’t deserve it, but God had been quick to forgive him when he repented.

David picked up a quill and dipped it into the ink and wrote his autobiography in one sentence on the parchment.

Psa. 119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.

Then he thought a moment and added a short postscript…

Psalms 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

Twenty Signs You’re A Luke Warm Christian

Twenty Signs Of A Luke Warm Christian

(The Harsh Reality: Half Christian, Half Sinner, Totally Lost!)

Rev. 3:14 And unto the angel of the church [a] of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;’

lukewarmRev. 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.’

Rev. 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.’

Rev. 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:’

Rev. 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.’

Rev. 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.’

Rev. 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.’

How Do You Know If You’re Luke Warm?

When The Story Of Calvary Doesn’t Make You Cry!

When Sin Doesn’t Bother You!

When You Find It Comfortable To Miss Church Services

When Your Prayer Life Is Non-Existent Or Empty

When You Leave Your Only Bible At Church

When Tithing Is A Sacrifice For You

When Worship Is An Effort

When Saying Amen To The Preaching Is Uncomfortable

When You Only Seek God When You Are In Desperate Need

When You No Longer Witness

When You Look For Loopholes In Your Churches Standards

When You Love Pleasure More Than You Love God

When Your Giving Is From Your Leftovers And Not Your First Fruits

When You Want To Miss Hell, But Not Enough To Change How You Live

When You Are Worried More About Man’s Approval Than God’s Approval

When You Feel No Inward Response To Preaching

When Criticizing Your Pastor, The Church And Holiness Comes Easy

When Satan Doesn’t Bother Fighting You

When You No Longer Weep Over Lost Souls

When Thoughts Of The Coming Of The Lord Doesn’t Excite You!

Are You Lukewarm?

Who Are You To Judge Me? – Repost

with 18 comments

“Who Are You To Judge Me?”

How many times have we heard someone say that, whether it was directed to us or to someone else? It’s easy for most of us to get offended when others express disapproval of our actions.

By nature, most of us are very private. We resent outsiders intruding uninvited into our personal lives. Wegg57234595 automatically throw up a defensive barrier. Somewhere in all of us there is a storage room that houses cryptic phrases designed for rebuttal and justification. We quickly grab one and use it with the hopes of silencing our accuser. Sometimes, it works.

Most church members and ex-church member alike consider the act of judging a grievous fault. So, since most of us have been judged at one time or another, let us look at the subject of judging others.

As citizens, we are used to being judged every day on our skills, behavior, and performance.

Judgment Is Common In Every Day Society

  • Television shows, such as American Idol, judge contestants on their ability to sing and perform.
  • At the County Fair, someone will judge which pie is the best.
  • There are judges at dog shows, and the dollar value of someone’s beloved pet may be at their mercy.
  • When a prospective new driver turns 16 years old, his or her driving ability is judged. Someone must determine if they should be issued a driver’s license.
  • To be promoted to the next grade and even graduate, a teacher must determine the student’s academic ability.
  • To become a licensed minister in an organization. An applicant’s worthiness is determined when he appears before a licensing board.
  • Every new pastor that is voted on by the church has his qualifications judged by the congregation’s yes or no vote. The same holds true for politicians.
  • The Bank Officer judges the applicants credit rating and payment history before loaning any money.
  • The Miss America beauty pageant uses Judges to determine who should represent the U.S.A.
  • There are multitudes of judges for every Olympic event.
  • The gardener judges whether or not the tree’s branches need pruned, or if the tomatoes need watered.
  • Someone will be a judge over who gets custody of the child, and who gets what, in the divorce settlement.
  • The Traffic Cop judges whether or not you should be pulled over and cited.
  • Every employee knows the meaning of a “Performance Review.” Someone must sit on the other side of the desk and judge the employees worthiness.
  • Actually, everyone that wants the bragging rights of being the best, the fastest, or the most gifted, must first meet the judge.

We seem to be comfortable with the idea of being judged according to our fleshly activities. We understand that no one receives approval without a judgment of some kind. However, it’s man’s judgment of our spiritual pursuits, or lack thereof, that brings the fire into our reactions.

Webster Defines The Word, “Judge” As:

Judge

1: to form an opinion about through careful weighing of evidence and testing of premises.

You’re Sick And Tired Of Others Judging You? I Understand. Let’s Look At The Subject Of Judging In The Bible.

Is it true that Christians are told not to judge? The surprise answer is no. In fact, according to Scripture those who do not judge are more likely to be led astray by false doctrines and are less than effective witnesses for Jesus Christ.

Most People Who Cite The Lord’s “Command” Not To Judge, Use Following Quotation:

Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Matthew 7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Matthew 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Matthew 7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

Matthew 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

To Whom Were These Words Spoken?

This whole passage is addressed to the religious hypocrites of the day. Jesus warned these self-righteous people who criticized others, but were guilty of the same things… or worse.

You’re Sick And Tired Of Others Judging You? As Much As Our Flesh Doesn’t Like It, Church Members Must Make Judgments.

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

  • False prophets are to be recognized (judged) by their fruits.

Should Christians Judge Each Other? Absolutely!

The Lord is pleased with those that judge righteously.

John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

Some Lukewarm Church Members Feel That A Preacher Should Not Be Their Judge.

I would point them the Lord’s instruction to the Priest Joshua.

Zechariah 3:7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.

Remember John The Baptist saying:

Matthew 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Mark 6:17 For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her.

Mark 6:18 For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.

  • John had guts enough to tell King Herod that he was wrong, that he was living with his brother’s wife. Herod had John thrown in prison and finally beheaded. John was not afraid to make a righteous judgment.

The Prophet Nathan Looked King David In The Eye And Judged Him.

2 Samuel 12:7 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

There Has Always Been Resentment In The Congregation Against Messages That Judge.

Isaiah 30:10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

  • Even in the days of Isaiah, men wanted to be left alone by the man of God. They only were willing to hear smooth preaching. Not much has changed. They wanted to do what ever their conscience allowed them to do.

Judges 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

  • Without accountability, even the people of God sink to this level. The shocking news for our flesh is that what is right in our eyes may not be right in God’s eyes. We all need help. We just need it in different areas.

What About Discernment Of Spirits?

1 Corinthians 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

  • This is a gift that God provided for His body, whereby Holy Ghost filled people may be able to determine what spirit another is manifesting. In a way, it’s like being able to see what’s on the inside of another person.

Try The Spirits. (Judge Them)

1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Samuel

The Prophet learned about judging spirits the hard way. He found out quickly that God looked not only on the outside, like humans, but He looked especially at the heart.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

(Note: They that are spiritually wayward love to justify their carnal and maybe even sinful outward appearance by saying that God looks on the heart. (As if that were the only place He looks.) This passage strongly makes the point that God did not even like what he saw on the inside. Maybe the self-righteous should not use this verse as their defense.)

If You Don’t Want Anyone Judging You, Be Glad You Weren’t There When The Apostle Paul Preached.

Paul Judged Situations Publically Without Being Present.

  • Case 1. Immorality

1 Corinthians 5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,

1 Corinthians 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

1 Corinthians 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

(Called a…)

  • That person’s lifestyle resulted in the church judging them guilty and calling them by the name of their sin.

1 Corinthians 5:12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

1 Corinthians 5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

  • Case 2. Church Factions During The Lord’s Supper

1 Corinthians 11:17 Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.

1 Corinthians 11:18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.

  • Paul Openly Judged Sensitive Situations.

Judgment Is Required Of All Spiritual People.

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthians 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

(The Message) 1 Corinthians 2:15 Spiritually alive, we have access to everything God’s Spirit is doing, and can’t be judged by unspiritual critics.

Spirit Filled Saints Are To Judge All Things.

Godly Spirit-filled saints are required to judge all things. Judge spirits? Yes! Judge things as well? Absolutely!

We Are To Judge All Things By God’s Standard Of Judgment. Things Such As:

  • Life Situations
  • Events
  • Relationships
  • Friendships
  • Music
  • Internet Activities
  • Entertainment
  • Hollywood Presentations
  • Sports
  • False Doctrines
  • Styles of Dress
  • Compromise
  • Immodesty

Just To Name A Few

(Note: EVERYONE that I have seen who re-evaluated their Holiness Standards or Convictions has not grown closer to God or resembled the Old-time Pentecostal lifestyle, but rather moved closer to looking and acting like the present world.)

The Apostles Judged A Situation Correctly And The Holy Ghost Confirmed It.

Acts 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

Paul Wasn’t Afraid To Have His Brethren Weigh His Words.

1 Corinthians 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

1 Corinthians 10:15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

You Dislike Being Judged? I Understand, But Even Prophets Are Subject To Being Judged.

Prophets Judge Other Prophets.

A Prophet’s reward is not money or fame. It is simply that his prophecy comes true. If the prophecy does not come true he is, by all standards of measurement, a false prophet.

1 Corinthians 14:29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

The Pastor Must Make Judgment Calls.

Some situations a Pastor has to deal with are not mentioned specifically by name in the Bible. So, he must make a judgment call, or a ruling. Hence, they that make good rulings are worthy of double honor.

1 Timothy 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

There’s No Doubt A Good Reason Why Some Make A Loud Noise About Not Wanting Anyone To Judge Them.

Scenario 1

Maybe They Are In Rebellion And Don’t Want To Change.

  • Because they are not doing right, and they do not want anyone reminding them.
  • They know what they have been taught.
  • They remember how they used to live.
  • They chose to ignore the Word of God and the Pastor.

Scenario 2

Maybe God Has Turned Them Over To A Delusion.

  • They feel they are right and will debate you tirelessly in their attempt to justify themselves.
  • They feel saved and content even though they have never been farther away from Truth.
  • They wouldn’t love Truth, so God handpicked their delusion and gave them something they would love. Error.

Scenario 3

A Humble Heart Will Repent When Judged And Correct The Error.

2 Timothy 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

Preacher… Preach The Word. It Is God’s Plumb Line.

  • Preach Without Fear or Favor.
  • Be Not Afraid Of Their Faces.
  • You Must Answer To God For What You Preached And Didn’t Preach.
  • Preach It Even if It Affects Your Friends Or Family.
  • Preach it Because It Is Truth.

Correction Must Be Given When The Actions Of A Saint Are Judged To Be Wrong.

1 Timothy 5:20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

Luke 17:3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

Titus 1:13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

Titus 2:15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

If We Willingly Receive Correction and Instruction, We Show Evidence Of Being God’s Son.

Hebrews 12:5 … My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Hebrews 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Hebrews 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

Hebrews 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

If You’re Still Sick And Tired Of Others Judging You…

  • How Then Can Anyone Help You?
  • You Don’t Want A Pastor.
  • You Don’t Even Want A True Friend.
  • You Choose To Do What You Want.
  • No One Can Be Helped Without First Being Judged To Be In Need Of Help.
  • Please Don’t Put Up A Wall Of Defense Any More When Your Life Is Judged To Be Not Pleasing Unto God.

Who Are You To Judge Me?

Congratulations New Convert!

Welcome To A World Of Honor.

You Have Been Greatly Favored Of The Lord! He Has Chosen To Honor You!

1. He Honored You By Opening Your Understanding.

Luke 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

2. He Honored You By Allowing You To Repent Of Your Sins!

No one can unilaterally choose when to repent.

It was God that drew you to repentance.

John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him:

It was The Goodness of God led you to Repentance.

Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

3. He Honored You When He Washed Your Sins Away In Baptism In His Name, According To Acts 2:38!

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

4. He Honored You When He Filled You With The Holy Ghost Speaking In Other Tongues!

One of the world’s highest honors is for Christ to choose your body as a temple to dwell in.

You have been highly favored of the Lord!

You Have Now Embarked Upon A Journey Full Of Honor And Divine Favor.

5. He Honored You By Giving You A Wonderful Pastor Who Would Preach The Truth And Lead You In The Paths Of Righteousness.

Always Honor Your Pastor. He Is Here In Christ’s Stead.

1 Timothy 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

6. He Honored You By Giving You A Revelation Of Who He Is. God, Manifested In The Flesh!

Matthew 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar–jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

7. He Honored You By Guiding You Into All Truth.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

8. He Honors You By Providing Healing For All Of Your Diseases.

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

9. He Honors You By Supplying All Your Needs.

Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

10. He Honors You By Protecting And Defending You.

Remember!  Honor Is A Two Way Street!

God Especially Focuses On The Subject Of Honor.

He Is Well Pleased When Those He Has Honored, Choose To Honor Him In Return.

1 Timothy 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

He Tells Children To Honor Their Father And Mother.

Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

He Tells Us To Honor Our Seniors And Show Respect.

Leviticus 19:32 Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the Lord.

He Tells Us To Honor The Widows.

1 Timothy 5:3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.

Honor Him With Your Praise And Worship.

Psalm 71:8 Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.

God Requires That You Honor Him With More Than Just Words.

Isaiah 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Matthew 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

He Expects You To Honor Him With Your Tithes. In Doing So, You Honor Him For What He Has Given You. He Then Will Honor You More.

Proverbs 3:9 Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

Proverbs 3:10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Your Lifestyle Should Honor Him.

1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Your Conduct

Your Spirit

Your Moral Purity And Separation From The World Honors Him

1 Thessalonians 4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

1 Timothy 2:10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

Your Prayer Honors Him.

Your Reaching For The Lost Honors Him.

Your Service In His Kingdom Honors Him.

Your Manifesting The Fruits Of The Spirit Honors Him.

Your Putting Him First In All Things Honors Him.

Your Asking Him To Direct Your Every Step Honors Him.

Your Including Him In Your Decision Making Honors Him.

Does Your Life Honor Him?

Be A Vessel Of Honor, Not A Vessel Of Dishonor.

2 Timothy 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

2 Timothy 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

God Has Chosen To Honor You.

The Way You Thank Him, Is Not Just With Words Alone,

You Honor Him When Your Life Is Surrendered To Serving Him.

You Honor Him When You Keep His Commandments.

You Honor Him By Surrendering To His Will.

You Honor Him By Doing His Will.

You Honor Him By Laboring In His Harvest.

Trying To Live Godly In An Ungodly World – As Ultra Orthodox Jew

with 5 comments

I recently received several comments on my blog from a careful and God-fearing Ultra Orthodox Jew. I was immediately moved with great respect for someone trying to please the Lord in a careless generation. I have many precious friends and acquaintances that strive to live as careful as this dear man. I only wish more did.

As a Charedi ( Ultra Orthodox) Jew I really enjoy reading your blog. Our parents and grandparents fought hard against TV and VCR and worldly customs of dress. It takes men with a burden and a love for the next generation to fight these things. We have taken a pretty strict stand on Internet I will present it here maybe some of you could benefit from it or add to it.

1. Parents with children attending our schools must sign a paper stating they have no Internet in the home.

2. In the office it must have an approved filter and it must be in public view.

3. Cell phone have no Internet or picture or video capacity.

I would enjoy your feedback on these topics.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and comment. I am thrilled to find others who unashamedly stand against the worldliness and sinfulness of our day. I appreciate your post very much.

Thank you for sharing these student requirements. I know longer pastor, but my pastor friends have conservative schools with similar requirements for their students and members. I think this is excellent.

Thank you for having a conscience that strives to be holy in an unholy world.

“I have never seen The Righteous forsaken nor His Seed begging for bread”. WE need to cry out against worldliness. Weep with me for the sin of the nation in which we reside. My heart breaks for the people. We are in the same situation as the Prophet Noah. We must stand against the evil of this time…. my heart bleeds.

Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?

Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?

The long blue Pontiac sedan rolled smoothly down Highway 30 through the Indiana countryside.  My father, Pastor Carl Ballestero was driving. I was his unofficial assistant and the two of us were going to a church anniversary service.

Carl Ballestero

Most trips Daddy was known to be talkative, but sometimes, he was content to ride in silence. Today was one of those days that he chose not to talk much, if at all.

Knowing that he had to preach at this special service, I chose not to interrupt his thoughts, in case he was thinking about his sermon. I only spoke if I saw he was interested in talking.

I contented myself by looking out of the passenger’s side window at the farms and passing landscape. The silence was comfortable.

The car ride had been without a spoken word for more than a half hour. Then, as if from nowhere I heard Daddy say in a soft voice, “Lord, have I told you lately that I love you?”

Tears immediately  sprang into my eyes, and the scenery became blurred. I never turned to looked at him. I didn’t want to interrupt or interfere with this sweet moment between him and the true love of his life.

I knew I was in the presence of godly man who truly loved The Lord with all of his heart. The Holy Ghost immediately filled that car, and I wept freely. I thanked God for His presence and His love, but I also thanked him for giving me a father who truly loved Him!

That moment nearly forty years ago has forever impacted my personal devotions. Every now and then I find myself riding along in the car or just setting at home and then seemingly out of nowhere, I will find myself saying… “Lord, have I told you lately that I love you?”

You know what? It still works! I always seem to feel God’s presence anew while tears flow down my cheeks just like they did that day.

Thank you Lord, for a Dad who set such a wonderful example before me. He unashamedly let me see how wonderful it was to fully love The Lord and openly show it!

Thanks Dad!

What Are You Using For Bait?

with one comment

What Are You Using For Bait?

Fishermen

What Are You Using For Bait? That’s the common question Fishermen ask of each other. They know that what you use for bait most of the time will determine what you catch.

If someone is fishing for Bass, their bait is normally different from someone who is fishing for catfish. What is used for bait will determine what is caught.

Hunters

Corn Feeders or corn placed near deer stands are common in many states. However, no one has ever heard of a deer hunter using Jalapeno Peppers for deer bait. Corn attracts the deer not the chili peppers.

 deerbait

Trappers

Every successful Trapper must know what baits attract which animals and bait their traps accordingly. What is used for bait will determine what is caught.

Householders

It is common knowledge among us, that cheese is a favorite bait to use in a mousetrap. When cheese is used, mice are caught. No one uses a carrot to bait a mouse trap.

 Mouse-Trap

Boys And Girls

If you don’t like the type of people you keep attracting, then maybe you need to check what you are using for bait.

8021031216328013758_f

What type of person are these guys trying to attract?

Do You Need To Change Your Bait To Catch Something Different, Or Better?

  • Carnal people attract carnal people
  • Worshippers attract worshippers
  • Critical spirits find one another
  • Godly people attract other godly people.

Preacher, You Get What You Preach

  • If you preach Faith, you attract believers.
  • If you preach the New Birth according to Acts 2:38 you attract those who want deliverance.
  • If you preach Holiness… Holiness preaching attracts those who want to leave the world behind.
  • If you preach Doctrine… you attract those who love the Word.
  • If you preach Pop Psychology type sermons… you will attract those that only want to hear smooth things, while continuing to live like they always have.
  • What is used for bait will determine what is caught.

Worship

Contemporary style worship attracts contemporary minds that, as a rule, resist older traditional Pentecostal style worship music. (Besides, there is little to no mention of sin or doctrine in most of the new songs.)

What Does Satan Use For Bait?

Satans-Lures1

  • Offenses?
  • Bitterness?
  • Money?
  • The Desire To Get ‘High’?
  • Injuries?
  • Egos?
  • Half Truths?

2 Timothy 2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

The devil sets traps.

Now the big question! This is the most important one of all!

If You Wanted To Attract God, What Would You Use For Bait?

  • Repentance?
  • Worship?
  • Humility?
  • Hunger?
  • Thirst?

Psalm 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Ask Cornelius.

  • He attracted the attention of God.

Acts 10:2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

Ask The Prodigal Son

  • He was humble and repentant.

Ask Bartimaeus

  • He cried out for mercy.

Ask Zacchaeus

  • He desired to see Jesus and got above the crowd.

 Ask Israel

  • God told them what to do to attract His Favor.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
