A Second Class Saint In A First Class Church
A Second Class Saint In A First Class Church
He looked up at the most beautiful structure his eyes had ever seen. Of all places in town, he liked this place the best. It was considered by all to be absolutely magnificent. Thousands workers were hired just to build this section of the edifice.
Looking slowly up at the giant pillars, he saw that they were formed into cloisters. They were 50 cubits high. He’d heard that the weight of each pillar was so great that it took 20 men to move it into place.
They each were so large that if three men stood together with outstretched arms, they would barely be able reach around them and touch fingers.
This one cloister of pillars by itself is 100 feet longer the world famous Cologne Cathedral.
There were a total of nine of these colossal entrances. But this one outshone them all. It was the best one.
This one entrance had an arch that was 24ft wide and 45ft high. It was decorated with lilies formed out of brass from Greece. It was an absolute work of art. It was fashioned like a border highlighting the whole top of arch. It shimmered and dazzled in the bright sunlight. It’s beauty made each passerby look on with awe.
The entrance originally was named “Nicanor” after the Alexandrian Jew who built the arch. Recently a grave plaque was discovered bearing the Greek inscription: “The bones of Nicanor the Alexandrian, who made the doors.”
Its other name was “Corinthian,” because of the costly material of which it was constructed— Corinthian brass.
However spectacular this was, it still wasn’t the building. It was just the entrance to the building. The building itself was so beautiful that people had even been known to faint just looking at its beauty. But he had never gotten that close before.
Josephus gives many interesting particulars about this gate, which, he tells us, “Greatly excelled in workmanship and value above all the others. They all were plated with gold and silver, but this one was plated more richly and thickly. It was larger than the other gates too. It was 50 cubits in height, the others were 40.” Its massiveness and magnificence, therefore, earned for it the name Beautiful.
The name stuck. They called it Beautiful. It became known as the gate called Beautiful. It was just one of the entrances into the great Temple.
The beggar sat there just looking at this amazing entrance. He had never been inside. He had no idea what the Temple was like on the inside. He could only imagine. His physical handicap, his lameness, kept him out. Because of this, he was considered a second-class citizen. He even thought of himself as such.
No one seemed to know his name. He was not able to work. Begging was his only option. Everyone referred to him as… the beggar that sits by the gate Beautiful.
He lived in survival mode. He had long ago given up dreams of being called a success in life, let alone ever being a rich man. He was content to be a beggar. He was content to let others support him and allow him to maintain this level of existence. He’d accepted his lot in life. He was content to be miserable. He never believed he could ever be any different. He was just a beggar. A beggar that just happened to be sitting by the most beautiful Temple entrance in Jerusalem.
He was a Jew like everyone else. He just didn’t get to enjoy the same level of relationship with Jehovah everyone else did. He considered himself a second-class member of a first-class Temple.
But one day that changed!
Acts 3:1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
Acts 3:2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
Acts 3:3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.
Acts 3:4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.
Acts 3:5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
Acts 3:7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
Acts 3:8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
Acts 3:9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God
Although this story happened about 2,000 years ago, it still continues to happen throughout many Apostolic churches today on a spiritual level.
It is not unusual to notice 2nd class saints in 1st class churches.
Some are easy to spot because they don’t worship or get involved in their church. They always hold back. Something in the past handicapped them and prevented them from enjoying what others enjoy freely every day. They never “enter” into His inner courts. Something keeps them on the outside of everything wonderful. They are content to stay there.
Even in the best of churches, there can be second-class saints.
- Some don’t Worship.
- Some have a problem with Holy living.
- Some aren’t Faithful in attendance.
- Some are lovers of Pleasure MORE than lovers of God.
- Some don’t Obey.
- Some don’t Submit.
- Some don’t Forgive.
- Some don’t give God His tenth.
- Some don’t Witness.
- Some are Proud.
- Some don’t have a Teachable spirit.
- Some are still Babes in Christ.
- Some are filled with Unbelief.
- Some live in Fear.
- Some are Bitter
- Some have no Desire.
All of them COULD enjoy church on a higher level. All of them could even be a blessing to the church family.
There’s no doubt, they are attending a 1st class church. (Surely no one would CHOOSE to be a 2nd class saint and sit in a 1st class church!)
In the Bible story, the men of God invited the lame man to ‘look on us.’
Get your eyes off of every thing else. Look afresh at your Pastor and listen anew to his preaching. Then, do like the lame man did… ‘take his hand.’ You will never change without preaching. You will never be delivered on your own. You can’t even be saved without a pastor. Give your heart to God, and then give your hand to the preacher.
When we join hands with God’s man and “expect to receive something from him,” then we can expect to receive a miracle and a transformation in our life. It will happen.
Even your friends and family won’t recognize you. You’ll act differently. The next time they see you, you will be where you’ve never gone before. You will have entered into the inner courts.
Like the beggar who had never walked or jumped in his whole life, you will praise God and worship Him like you never have before. Your joy will be full for the first time in your life.
We all need to get the revelation that we don’t HAVE to be a 2nd class saint in a 1st class church. We don’t have to sit on the outside while others enter in. There is hope for all. You CAN go to places in God where you have never gone before.
You can be a 1st class Christian in a 1st class Church!

The Cost Of Doing Business
The Cost Of Doing Business
I’m in Sand Springs, Oklahoma today. I fly out in a little bit, from the Tulsa airport to go to Medford, Oregon.
I wanted to travel today with my clothes all washed and clean. I didn’t have any cash on me, so I stopped at the Quick Trip service station to check my bitcoin balanced and transferred some to my bank account. After reading Midas Letter Crypto News, I had gotten into buying and selling bitcoins for personal investments. Once I successfully transferred the cryptocurrency to USD currency, I found an ATM machine that they have. I swiped my card and punched in the amount I wanted. The machine informed me that it was going to charge me $1.50 for the transaction. I had to accept or decline. I accepted. It was the Bank’s “Cost Of Doing Business.”
I went to the Laundromat. A pixie haired great grandma named Maude was the lone employee. Both doors stood open to allow for cooler air to blow through the warm room. Maude said that in the summer, it got very hot in the laundry. She said that she had air conditioning at home, but even when it was 90 degrees in her bedroom, she didn’t turn on the air. She said if she did, it would make the heat uncomfortable for her when she got to work. Not turning on the air conditioning was what Maude was willing to pay to better enjoy her job. For her it was the personal “Cost Of Doing Business.” She did it without being asked.
The ‘Old Town Café’ in Sand Springs served a good breakfast. The locals were friendly; the stale scent of smoke was noticeable. The cashier said I owed $8.50. I left $2.00 on the table for the waitress. It was just the “Cost Of Doing Business.”
I bought some items at the Drug Store. The lady at the counter said, “That’s $1.95 plus tax.” Sales Tax is what you pay to the State of Oklahoma. It’s the “Cost Of Doing Business.”
At the Counter of United Airlines, the Kiosk charged me $60.00 for my two checked bags. That’s besides the cost of the ticket. I paid United Airlines because they said that it’s just the “Cost Of Doing Business.”
At the airport, I had to take off my shoes, my coat, my wallet, and my belt. I pulled out my computer and placed it in a container. I was required to go through a metal detector. It was an inconvenience. There was an unspoken question of suspicion the TSA has about everyone. I submitted to the personal inspection, it was just the “Cost Of Doing Business.”
I found my seat, and it was not long before I heard “Praise the Lord, Bro. Ballestero! I didn’t recognize the faces of the older husband and wife, but they seemed to know me. She had her long hair fixed very nice and her modest dress represented Pentecost very well. She understood that although Salvation is free, Holiness in conduct and in dress is God’s requirement. It’s the “Cost Of Doing Business.”
I asked them how they were doing and they said, “Wonderful! Thank the Lord!”
They understood too that although Salvation is free, Praise is God’s requirement. It’s the “Cost Of Doing Business.”
The Rich Young Ruler was asked to sell everything he had, give it to the poor and take up the cross and follow Jesus. He went away sorrowful. He wasn’t willing to Sacrifice and pay the “Cost Of Doing Business.”
- Holiness is the “Cost Of Doing Business.”
- Praise and Worship is the “Cost Of Doing Business.”
- Sacrifice is the “Cost Of Doing Business.”
Are You And God Still Doing Business?
What Was In Heart Of Judah?
What Was In Heart Of Judah?
Just a Thought. You have to put the meat on the bones.
We Know that Judah, represents Worship and Praise. They have been called the Tribe of the Praisers.
Notice where Simeon is located (taken from my Mac Bible program). It’s in the heart of Judah. Some of Simeon’s definitions are, Submission and Obedience. Typifying to me that Worship and Submission should be in the very heart of our Worship! My Worship to Him won’t mean very much if I am not submitted to Him and His Word. What’s in your heart?
How To Have The Best Wife In The World!
How To Have The Best Wife In The World!
It’s true! It’s easy! It works!
Before I can explain how and you gentlemen are allowed to know the secret and get all excited, I have to talk to you about God first. That’s exactly right. I have to talk about God and You. Listen up.
There are seven basic Hebrew words that describe how we are to worship and praise the Lord. Below is a part of a handout from one of my sermons.
The Seven Words Of Praise
1. BARAK Judg 5:2 Praise ye the LORD for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.
2. HALAL 2Chrn. 5:13-14; It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD;
3. ZAMAR Psa. 21:13; Be thou exalted, LORD, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.
4. TEHILLAH Psa. 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
5. YADAH Psa. 7:17 I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.
6. SHABACH Psa. 117:1 O Praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.
7. TOWDAH Psa 50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.
The second one listed here is the one we want to really need to understand better. It’s the Hebrew word Halal.
HALAL – haw-lal’; to shine; hence
- to make a show, (let every one know)
- to be (clamorously) foolish; (enjoy with enthusiasm)
- to rave; (to go on and on with excited appreciation)
- to boast, (brag in public)
- celebrate, (honor every achievement)
- foolishly glory, (go overboard in expressing praise)
- sing, (to express your emotion as deeply as possible, sing His praises.)
- praise, (to say every nice thing you can)
- rage, (to be wild about)
- When joined with abbreviated form of God’s name “Yahweh” = Hallelujah. That’s where the word Hallelujah comes from.
(Saying Hallelujah is like saying 10,000 praises to Jehovah)
Something special happened to Israel when they began to Halal!
2 Chr 5:13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
2 Chr 5:14 So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
- God wants Exuberant, Joyful and Clamorous Praise!
- Halal touches the heart of God so deeply that in the midst of praise… the Glory Cloud fills the place and all the priests are overwhelmed by the response.
If we want the Glory Cloud to enter our church services. Then we must never forget to importance of Halal praise. Not dead church. Not quiet church. Not reserved worship. Not “still waters run deep” kind of singing. But Exuberant, Joyful and Clamorous Praise!
OK! So what does all this Bible Study have to do with having The Best Wife In The World? Why, Everything!!
I Know This Is Lengthy, But At Least Notice The Bold Words!
Prov. 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
Prov. 31:11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
Prov. 31:12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
Prov. 31:13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
Prov. 31:14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
Prov. 31:15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
Prov. 31:16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
Prov. 31:17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
Prov. 31:18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
Prov. 31:19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
Prov. 31:20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
Prov. 31:21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
Prov. 31:22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
Prov. 31:23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
Prov. 31:24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
Prov. 31:25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
Prov. 31:26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
Prov. 31:27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Prov. 31:28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Prov. 31:29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
Prov. 31:30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
- This woman was amazing!
- She is the one held up to all Christian women as THE role model.
- Some men may read about her and marvel. They may even feel cheated.
We often quote the phrase, ‘Her children shall call her blessed.’ That really is wonderful.
But What Every Man Should Focus On Is Verse 28!
- Her husband praiseth her! (Progressive verb ending, eth, meaning he keeps on praising her.)
- The word praiseth, here is… you guessed it, Halal.
(I will always be indebted to my friend, Bro. Kenneth Bow, in his research he discovered the Hebrew verb Halal in Proverbs 31 and shared that with me.)
- How Did The ‘Proverbs 31’ Wife Become So Awesome?
- Was She Some Rarity That Only Happens Once Every 1,000 Years? I Don’t Believe So.
- Could It Be That The Constant Praising (Halal) Of Her Husband Brought Out The Best In Her? I Believe It Did!
- He Invested His Best Praise (Halal) In Her And She Gave Him Her Best!
HALAL – haw-lal’; to shine; hence
- to make a show, (let every one know)
- to be (clamorously) foolish; (enjoy with enthusiasm)
- to rave; (to go on and on with excited appreciation)
- to boast, (brag in public)
- celebrate, (honor every achievement)
- foolishly glory, (go overboard in expressing praise)
- sing, (to express your emotion as deeply as possible, sing Her praises.)
- praise, (to say every nice thing you can)
- rage, (to be wild about)
If you think God’s response of filling the house with his Glory so that the men couldn’t stand because their Halal was great, then sir you just wait till the ‘glory of your wife’ fills your house when you Halal her!
Do it! Do all 9 of them! You’ll never be sorry! It’s never too late to start!
Put some Halal in your marriage and you will have The Best Wife In The World. I promise!
Blowing Off Steam
I do not wish to be judgmental about how my friends have church. It’s their church. I am just a passerby.
I’ve just left Starks, LA and the wonderful church pastored by my dear friend. Bro. Jeremy Shields. But the memories of the sweet worship and Old-Time Pentecostal songs still resonate in my ears. Going to Starks was like going back in a time machine. It was like going back to when I got the Holy Ghost in 1958. I loved the worship!! (Thank you Pastor Shields for keeping the Old Songs alive.)
Calvary Apostolic Church, Starks, LA
A few churches today still have songbooks, most don’t, and many use the overhead projectors. I am not going to argue that here. I guess you use what works for you.
(My step-father-in-law, Bro. Howard Davis, says,” If you want to keep from going Charismatic, just use the old song books.”)
Here is the heart of my complaint. The Bible does say, “sing a NEW song” unto the Lord. Great, SING IT! IT”S BIBLE SAYS TO SING IT.
But just because we obey THAT scripture doesn’t mean we have to throw away all the OLD songs. Please don’t stop singing the Old Songs.
Old Songs.
Songs that made you weep with conviction,
Songs that made your heart rip right out.
Songs that drew you closer to God.
Songs that melted your spirit.
Songs written by someone wanting to know God better.
Songs not written by someone just to get enough money to make a bus payment.
I love songs that make me shout too. I am very demonstrative. But rhythm for the sake of rhythm is very shallow, at best. Some songs that a little more than a drum beat, make my legs tired, but my heart is still empty.
I have gone to District Camp Meetings and General Conferences and watched a new generation lift their hands and worship and talk about what a awesome move of God.
The 7-11 songs blessed them to no end. (7 words, sung 11 times) Like at the new Temple. Young folks Shouted, Old Folks Cried.
The problem was, I DID NOT feel what they were feeling. Many of Today’s songs are about Him being HOLY or WORTHY.
Well, He absolutely is!! I love it. Yet it strikes me funny that most I see singing these NEW songs about Him being HOLY can’t see the importance of being holy themselves.
I preached this year in a church where the pastor asked his frilly little music director to sing a certain old song during the service. The music director said “oooh, that’s OLD School.” He would not play it and the pastor didn’t sing it. I was ANGRY.
That little idiot would have been off the keyboard and had his pink suitcase packed before morning, if I was his pastor. That’s the problem, neighbor! Too many churches have their entire worship service guided and directed by a leader who, although gifted, does not have an ounce of consecration, or sensitivity to the Holy Ghost, or submission to his pastor. Come on pastor, YOU are the pastor of the church. Thank God if you have good help in the music department. But you are the Pastor. You call the shots.
In reality, some pastors are not pastoring (leading) the church. The Music Dude is… Don’t let him!!!!
While you are at it, don’t give me this mess about it being a NEW DAY. EVERY generation since Adam has had that excuse at their hands if they so chose.
(Lord, that felt good!)
