God Is Voice Activated

God Is Voice Activated

God Is Voice Activated

Everyday tech life is somewhat new to the concept. But it has certainly caught on. Siri can make my phone do many things. Some of which I have to immediately correct. But she is voice activated.

Google even got on the bandwagon with a list of at least 70 commands you may give to “Okay Google.”

Everyday things in your home , you car or on your person can be voice activated.

  • Light switches
  • Thermostats
  • Your car’s guidance system.
  • Cell phones
  • Recorders
  • Watches
  • Bluetooth’s

I Grew Up Being Voice Activated. Some Words That Put Me In Motion Were:

  • Time to get up.
  • Time to go to bed.
  • Come here.
  • Turn off the light.
  • Sit up straight.
  • Sit down.
  • Quit that
  • Be quiet.
  • Wash the dishes.
  • Take out the trash.
  • Pick that up.
  • Go to the store.

But, you already knew all of that because you too grew up being voice activated. Even your new puppy is voice activated.

Prayer Activates God – Just Ask

Can you comprehend the fact that we can activate the most Powerful, Holy, Glorious, Purest, and Loving Force in the world? Yes, you can! Your voice can activate God. He is ready at a moment’s notice to assist you. He is literally at your beck and call.

Imagine a day when people did not understand that. To them He was one they feared and hid from. Then He came and dwelt among His people and told them that He was willing to do for them whatever they asked. You heard me right. He said things like:

Matt. 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

Matt. 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Matt. 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Jas. 4:2 …yet ye have not, because ye ask not

Jairus Asked

Luke 8:41 And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus’ feet, and besought him that he would come into his house:

The Syrophoenician Woman Asked

Mark 7:26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

A Leper Asked

Mark 1:40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

Mark 1:41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean

Ten Lepers Asked

Luke 17:12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:

Luke 17:13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

The Blind Man Asked

Luke 18:38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

Why Don’t You Ask?

Praise Activates God

The Singers Praised Him And The Glory Fell

2Chron. 5:13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;

2Chron. 5:14 So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.

The Army Praised Him And The Enemy Was Defeated

2Chron. 20:21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

2Chron. 20:22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

Paul & Silas Praised Him And Everyone Was Set Free

Act 16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

Act 16:26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

Why don’t You Praise Him?

Prayer And Praise Always Activates God.

If you feel God is not responding to your needs like you would like Him to…

Activate Him!

I Love You But I Just Don’t Want To Talk To You!

I Love You But I Just Don’t Want To Talk To You!

I Love You But I Just Don’t Want To Talk To You!

I really do love you though.

I wouldn’t want to hurt your feelings in anyway.

I absolutely cherish you.

I’m fearful that I am hurting you by saying this.

I know what you’re going to say.

You’re going to remind me of all the nice things you’ve done for me.

You’ll probably ignore me and go talk to other people.

I enjoy listening to you talk to me, but it’s hard for me to talk to you.

I know it sounds crazy.

I love everything about you.

I never want to leave you.

I would never leave you for anyone else.

You are my world.

I enjoy being with you.

I want to be wherever you are.

I want you to love me.

I love you.

I tell my friends how wonderful you are.

They’re impressed.

I’m indebted to you I know.

I will never forget the first day we met.

My life has changed because of you.

I don’t want to live in this world without by my side.

I want you to know I love you.

I’m coming over to your house tonight at 7:30pm.

I won’t make it in time for pre-service prayer tonight.

You know I love you, but I really don’t want to talk to you.

The Answered Prayer That Brought Pain

with 2 comments

The Answered Prayer That Brought Pain

Be careful what you ask for.

Some answered prayers bring much pain.

2 Kings 20:1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.

Hezekiah was on his deathbed. He knew he was sick and wasn’t getting better. Everyone in the Palace knew the King was dying. Hezekiah was a fighter and he was struggling to live.

Then unannounced, the Prophet Isaiah walks into his private bedchamber and gives him a word from the Lord.

It wasn’t well received by Hezekiah. He began to think of all that he had done in keeping Israel focused on walking in the ways of the Lord. He reminded God of all of his accomplishments and on the basis of that prayer, the Lord granted him fifteen more years of life.

As he was leaving, Isaiah barely got to the middle court of the Palace before God sent him back with another word.

2 Kings 20:5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.

2 Kings 20:6 And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.

Now with more years added to his life, he even fathered another son. His name was Manasseh. There is one phrase in a verse that describes his whole life. “He did evil in the sight of the Lord.” 2 Chronicles 33:2

  • His life was a series of abominations.
  • He lived like the heathens in the nations around him.
  • He copied their idolatry.
  • He copied their lifestyles.
  • He built altars to Baal.
  • He offered some of his own children as burnt sacrifices.
  • He made them pass through the fire.
  • He used enchantments.
  • He allowed witchcraft. – 2 Chron. 33:6
  • He dealt with familiar spirits. 2 Chron. 33:6
  • He put a carved idol in the Temple. – 2 Chron. 33:7
  • He made Israel to sin worse than the heathen. 2 Chron. 33:9
  • He killed Isaiah, the beloved prophet. History says he was sawn asunder.

Israel became exceedingly cursed because one man’s selfish prayer affected forever the lives of their whole nation.

If Hezekiah had submitted to the original will of the Lord. Manasseh would have never been born. Isaiah would have lived on. The nation of Israel would have no doubt continued on in the direction Hezekiah had led them.

We are often frustrated and disappointed that our prayers are not always answered. We know, or at least think we know, what we need the most. We are intent on telling God how to direct our lives and what wishes, wants and needs of ours He should supply.

Once God has made a decision about your future, please submit to Him. Your prayer then for your sense of personal fulfillment may not be the blessing you had hoped.

Hezekiah got what he prayed for. But, all of Judah and every Godly person suffered because of that one answered prayer.

God Answered Her Prayer

with 13 comments

God Answered Her Prayer

Fannie Thorne lived with a deep dark secret. She didn’t know who her biological father was. Her mother was also born out of wedlock. Now, two generations in a row had endured all the whispers and shunning of polite society.

Other members of Fannie’s family were religious. Very religious indeed! Two of her brothers were preachers in the Assemblies of God Church.

Fannie’s Grandmother had not been allowed to marry the father of her child because he was not of the same religion. He was a professional boxer. Actually, he was the World Champion Heavy Weight Boxer, Bob Fitzsimmons.

A kind and loving Mr. Thorne married Fannie’s mother and adopted baby Fannie, giving her a last name.

Fannie grew up going to church. Her family settled in the Fresno, California area. They attended a large Assemblies Of God Church pastored by the renowned Rev. Charles Price.

As Fannie grew into young womanhood, she attracted the fancy of a dashing Catholic boy named Charles. They fell in love. Fannie had to push aside her Spirit-filled Assemblies of God background to allow herself to be married to Charles.

Against her family’s arguments and disapproval, she married him anyway. Charles and Fannie lived in a nice big house on S. Main St. in Los Angeles, only twenty blocks from the Courthouse.

Two sons were born to them. The Birth Certificates certify that the oldest son was named Charley, and the youngest son is listed as Joseph.

Soon after little Joseph was born, Fannie discovered she had Tuberculosis. For several years she struggled to survive. The Doctors weren’t much help.

She was treated in a Sanatorium in Fresno for her sickness. It was there that she desperately prayed for God to heal her so that she might raise her children. Her boys were now six and four years old.

When she lay on her deathbed, at the age of twenty-six, her brothers and aunts heard her pray her last prayer to God.

“God, would you save my baby boy and make him a preacher?”

Young Fannie died and was buried in an unmarked grave in Mountain View Cemetery in Fresno, California.

The boys were raised as Catholics in spite of their mother’s prayers. Little Charley and Joseph became devout Catholics and attended a Catholic school. Their father turned to alcohol for solace after losing his young wife. He never remarried.

The constant drunkenness of their father caused the state to take the boys away from their Father and place them in Foster Care. Joseph was placed in fourteen different Foster homes. He ran away from eleven of them.

More than fifteen years later, young Joseph went down to the altar the first time he visited his mother’s old church in Fresno. God filled him wonderfully with the Holy Ghost and he spoke in tongues.

About four years later while in the U. S. Army, Joseph found Christ Church in Oregon City, Oregon and was baptized in Jesus Name by Pastor Andrew Baker. God called him into the ministry, and he willingly accepted.

Joseph preached all over America. He preached twenty-five years as a Pastor and twenty-five years as an Evangelist. He travelled and preached everywhere, until his body and health gave out.

His Birth Certificate only showed the name Joseph and his last name. You knew him as Carl Joseph Ballestero. I called him Daddy.

My Grandmother Fannie Ballestero lay in her grave for nearly twenty years until it happened. And then… God answered her prayer! Just like she prayed, God saved her baby boy and made him a preacher!

Altar Call Songs

with 16 comments

Are You Old Enough To Remember These?

  • My wife Marcia and I put this Altar Call song list together back in 1999.
  • (These may be old songs from at least a generation or two back. But they still work!)

Finding the right song to play and sing for Altar Call is, in my mind, indeed a gift. Not everyone is blessed in that department. More often than not the right song sung at the end of a sermon can make all the difference in the outcome. If the song doesn’t ‘fit,’ if distracts in a noticeable manner.

This generation of musicians seems to have focused on the newer music alone, and not a few have ignored the older songs for altar call altogether. What a horrible loss!

Only the titles of some of the old songs are listed below. They are merely meant to be memory prompts. Either you know them or you don’t. I hope you do.

I thank every musician and singer for making any attempt to keep even a few of our old faithful songs alive.

SEARCH ME LORD, SEARCH ME LORD, SHINE THE LIGHT OF
SEARCH ME OH GOD
SEND IT ON DOWN, SEND IT ON DOWN
SERVE HIM WITH ALL OF YOUR HEART
SHELTERED IN THE ARMS OF GOD
SHUT IN WITH GOD, IN A SECRET PLACE
SIN CAN NEVER ENTER THERE
SOFTLY AND TENDERLY
SOME GLORIOUS DAYBREAK, JESUS WILL COME
SOMEDAY THERE’LL BE NO TOMORROW
SOMETHING GOT A HOLD OF ME
SPEAK MY LORD, SPEAK MY LORD
SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD, FALL FRESH ON ME
SWEEP OVER MY SOUL
TAKE IT ALL, TAKE IT ALL, WHAT THE WORLD
TAKE UP THY CROSS AND FOLLOW ME
TEACH ME LORD TO WAIT
TELL IT TO JESUS, TELL IT TO JESUS
THANK YOU LORD FOR SAVING MY SOUL
THE CROSS IS NOT GREATER THAN HIS GRACE
THE LIGHTHOUSE
THE LONGER I SERVE HIM THE SWEETER HE GROWS
THE OLD RUGGED CROSS
THE OLD RUGGED CROSS MAKES THE DIFFERENCE
THE UNSEEN HAND
THE WAY OF THE CROSS LEADS HOME
THE WORLD NEEDS JESUS, BUT WHY SHOULD I TELL YOU?
THERE’S A GREAT DAY COMING, A GREAT DAY COMING
THERE’S A SWEET, SWEET SPIRIT IN THIS PLACE
THERE’S NO ONE, NO ONE LIKE JESUS
THERE’S ROOM AT THE CROSS FOR YOU
THERE IS A FOUNTAIN FILLED WITH BLOOD
THERE IS A FOUNTAIN WHICH FLOWS FROM CALVARY
THERE IS A PLACE OF QUIETNESS
THERE IS COMING A DAY
THERE IS JUST NO PLACE LIKE HOME
THERE IS POWER, POWER
THROUGH IT ALL, THROUGH IT ALL…
THROW OUT THE LIFELINE
TO BE LIKE JESUS
TO BE USED OF GOD
TOMORROW
TOUCHING JESUS IS ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS
TRUST IN THE LORD, WITH ALL THINE HEART…
TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS
UNTIL THEN
WASTED YEARS
WE BRING A SACRIFICE OF PRAISE
WE DEDICATE THIS TEMPLE TO YOU LORD
WE HAVE COME INTO THIS HOUSE TO MAGNIFY THE LORD…
WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE
WHAT CAN HE DO..
WHEN HE REACHED DOWN HIS HAND FOR ME
WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD
WHEN I WALK UP THOSE STREETS OF GOLD
WHEN JESUS BREAKS THE MORNING
WHERE COULD I GO?
WHERE HE LEADS ME, I WILL FOLLOW
WHERE WILL YOU BE A MILLION YEARS FROM NOW
WHILE I WAS PRAYING, SOMEBODY TOUCHED ME
WHO AM I THAT A KING
WHY DON’T YOU LIFT UP YOUR HANDS AND PRAISE THE LORD
WHY NOT TONIGHT?
WHY SHOULD HE LOVE ME SO?
YES I KNOW, JESUS BLOOD CAN MAKE..
YOU’VE GOT TO LIVE FOREVER SOMEWHERE
YOU CAN’T MAKE ME DOUBT IT….
YOU NEVER MENTIONED HIM TO ME
YOU WON’T LEAVE HERE LIKE YOU CAME

Heaven’s Last Resort

with 4 comments

Heaven’s Last Resort

The Angel Ariel suddenly appeared in front of Jonathan’s desk. They were both Second Degree Angels laboring under a Level Seven Code Red.

“Michael sent me here to verify that we have everything we need on hand in case we have to go into immediate production,” he said without any formalities.

Jonathan’s nameplate on the desk showed that he was the head of the Immediate Response Team, which was a division of the Prayer Room Construction Unit.

“He also wanted me to get a list of the construction materials that were available this afternoon, if we get the go ahead from higher up, I told him I needed to know the type of cut he was planning to make on the wooden stairs, since that depends on the type of circular saw.

men_women_symbols“We’ve waited on John and Jane Doe to build their own Prayer Room for years. They’ve talked about it a long time, but they’ve never seemed to get around to getting one built.

“Now, they have waited until till the last-minute. If they don’t build their own, we don’t have much choice but to build one for them.

“It’s The Lord’s last resort, to build someone a prayer room. That is not His first choice. His first choice is that all men would have their own Prayer Room.”

Jonathan shook his head with understanding, and said,

“I recently watched some parents fret because their children, that were away at college, got too busy and neglected to call home. I overheard the mother say to her husband, that if we don’t deposit any money in their bank account this week, they’ll call home.”

“You’re right; we’ve all seen it,” said Ariel. “If the parents cut off the money, then the children remember to call and talk to Dad and Mom, all of a sudden. Actually, that is kind of what happens in the Spirit world, as well!”

Jonathan nodded his head in agreement as he pulled the current Prayer Room Construction Materials List closer to him, and began to read aloud.

“Well, pretty much the usual supplies are all in stock. We are pretty well stocked.

“For Class 1 Spiritual Emergency Circumstances, There Are Things Like…

  • Level 7 Temptations
  • Code Red Tribulations
  • Category 4 Storms

“For Class 2 Physical Emergency Circumstances, There’s…

  1. Bad Doctor’s reports
  2. Afflictions
  3. Incurable Syndromes
  4. Permanent Injuries
  5. Long Hospital Stays

“For Class 3 Material Emergencies, We Have

  • Financial loss
  • Loss of Job
  • Loss of housing
  • Loss of transportation
  • Debt overload

“For Class 4 Emotional Circumstances, We’ve Got…

  • Disappointments
  • Failures
  • Heartache
  • Rejection
  • Wayward children
  • Wayward grand children
  • Wayward spouse

“And Under Class 5…,

Jonathan looked up at Ariel to see if he wanted him to continue reading.

Ariel held up his hand as a signal for Jonathan to stop.

“Sounds like everything we might need, is on hand. We are still on standby, hoping against hope that John and Jane Doe will build their own Prayer Room without any help from us.  A Prayer Room is only built by us, as a last resort.

“Jonathan, I certainly hope your services aren’t needed, but if they are, I’ll get back with you! Keep your crew on standby.”

With that, Ariel disappeared. Jonathan waited to see what the day would bring forth.

Later that afternoon, Ariel stuck his head around the corner with a smile on his face.

“Good news,” he announced. “John and Jane Doe started building a Prayer Room on their own. Tell the crew to stand down, all is well.”

“I’m Going To Run Away From Home!”

with 10 comments

“I’m Going To Run Away From Home!”

That’s what I told my mom. I looked at her face and she didn’t seem to be overly shaken by the news, which

Me, Daddy (Carl) & Mama (Content) Ballestero

Me, Daddy (Carl) & Mama (Content) Ballestero 1951

was a good thing for me. So I relaxed a bit. I had already handled the hardest part. I’d made my big announcement. She smiled understandingly at me, as she touched my shoulder.

“Would you like me to help you pack your suitcase?” She asked, still smiling pleasantly.

My seven-year old brain didn’t pick up on the fact that she wasn’t overly shaken or alarmed by my desire to go, and was asking to help me pack.

I quickly accepted her assistance, because I had never packed a suitcase before. Mama was good at packing and always making sure I had everything I needed for trips.

I watched as she put my clothes in the little suitcase. There were enough changes to maybe get me through a whole week, which was good.  She made sure my little Bible and toothbrush were also packed in the suitcase. There wasn’t any room left for my brown teddy bear. I felt a major twinge about that. I hadn’t planned on being that alone.

Mama and I took a final look around my room looking for anything else I might need to take with me. Finding nothing, she closed the lid and handed me the small suitcase.

I stood there a little uncertain about how my goodbye should be handled. Our family was a kissy and huggy kind of family.

Should I kiss and hug her good-bye, or should I just say, “Bye” and leave? I was unsure. Before I had time to figure it out, mama made the decision for me.

“Honey, put down your suitcase right there, because I would like to take you on a tour of the house before you go.”

I sat the suitcase down and followed behind mama as she walked down the hall toward her bedroom. She stopped in the doorway as I joined her, and we both looked into her modestly furnished room.

“Since you are never going to get to see this room again, I thought you might want to see for the last time, where your mommy and daddy sleep at night. This is where you came every night to say your bedtime prayers and get your good night kisses.

“It’s also where you came every morning to get hugs and kisses from mommy and daddy. But, since you’re leaving you’ve probably outgrown all that now, so you won’t have to come back here any more, but I wanted you to see it.”

I took a big gulp. I didn’t want to cry now. I hadn’t expected a tour of any kind. I’d just wanted to runaway.

She then took my hand and guided me to my sister’s bedroom.

“This is where Beverly and your little sister Carlene sleep, take a good look, you’ll never get to see your sisters again. (Beverly was almost six and Carlene was two.)

Mama then guided me by my bedroom and I looked at my teddy bear proudly sitting on my bed. I felt a big twinge.

The tour continued into the kitchen. Mama took great pains to explain to me that this was where she fixed my favorite meals. She also pointed out where I used to stand and talk to her, as she cooked.

“Here is where I made your pancakes, and cooked your favorite meals. In here is where I baked you cookies, pies, cakes and your favorite orange crusted biscuits!” She said as she pointed at the oven.

“You probably won’t be having any biscuits, cookies or pancakes where you’re going. You don’t know how to make those, and you don’t even have anything to make them with, if you did. So take a good look around.”

I hadn’t thought about never having biscuits, cookies or pancakes again. There were some things about running away I evidently hadn’t thought out completely. I got very serious.

We then walked into the dining room and stopped at the foot of the table where I always sat.

“Here is your place at the table, son. It’s going to look awful empty without you in it!”

She let that sink in a moment before we moved on. She pointed at the chairs.

“Here is where your daddy always sits, and here is where Beverly sits, and Carlene sits here, and I always sit over there. Take a good look, Honey, because you won’t ever get to see this table, or eat with us any more.”

I began to feel more alone than I had planned. Mama walked toward the living room, and I joined her looking at the couch and easy chairs.

“Over here is your daddy’s chair. That’s where he always sits during family devotions when he reads us a chapter from the Bible or reads from The Bible Story Book.

“Here is where I always sit, and there is where Beverly and Carlene sit, and over there is where you always sit.

Mama placed her arm around me as we stood side by side looking the room over.

“Well honey, I think that about concludes the tour of our home. I know you won’t ever get to see it again, because you won’t be coming back. But I want you to know and I want you to always remember how much you mommy and daddy love you.

Never forget how much your little sisters love you too. We are going to miss you every day. You will always be welcome here, because we will always love you.”

Then without a lengthy delay she continued her goodbyes.

“Oh, one more thing, I know I’ve shown you all through the house for the last time, but why don’t you kneel down with mama where we always pray for our family devotions and tell Jesus goodbye.

“You probably won’t be talking to Him anymore either.”

Tell Jesus goodbye? That thought shocked me childish mind. I hadn’t planned on telling Jesus goodbye. All I thought I wanted to do was runaway from home.

Without waiting for me to give any verbal response, mama knelt down at the old sofa and began to pray as only my mama could pray.

Mama was one of those precious Holy Ghost filled mama’s that prayed them heart-felt and spirit filled prayers. She never prayed very long without everyone around her knowing she had touched something pretty wonderful in the glory world.

She began to pray fervently, crying quickly and speaking in tongues. This was how mama always prayed, but today’s prayer and her crying took on new meaning for me as I knelt there beside her.

I listened to her crying, and I felt sure I had made my mama cry because I was running away. I listened to her pray and speak in tongues and knew she was surely talking to Jesus.

I had only been on my knees less than two or three minutes when I began to cry. I placed my arm around my mama and pulled myself close to her.

“Mama, I am so sorry for wanting to run away. I’m not going to go anywhere. I’m going to stay home with you.

Please forgive me, mama. I love you. I promise, I will never leave you. I won’t even get married, or nothing. I’m just going to stay with you!”

She slipped her arm around me, and hugged me tightly as she gave me a sweet kiss. And then she went back to finish her prayer time with the Lord.

By chance have you been thinking lately about running away from Home?

  • Have you been considering leaving the Father’s House?
  • Have you?

Well, before you go, please, please permit me to take you on a tour of the church you’ve been part of for so long.

I want you look with me again at the place where the plan of salvation was first preached to you. I am pointing at the pulpit.

Remember feeling like you had sinned so bad that God would never forgive you? Can you hear your pastor’s voice once again saying that there was no sin you had ever committed that Jesus wouldn’t forgive you of? Remember him trying to give you hope? He was trying to tell you that God loved you no matter what.

I’m sure you remember him saying that you needed to believe in God’s promise, repent of your sins, be baptized in Jesus name, and then receive the gift of the Holy Ghost speaking in other tongues. Just like they did on the day of Pentecost.

Please look right over here at the altar where you first knelt down and repented of your sins. Remember how you felt when you felt you repented that night?

Now, I want you to come with me over to the baptistery and look into the place where your sins got washed away in Jesus name! Remember how clean you felt and how wonderful that experience was?

Then, when you came up out of the water you lifted your hands and God filled you with the Holy Ghost. You spoke in a language you’d never spoken in before! Take a look at this place again and ask your self if the world has anything that matches that.

Oh, see that aisle right there? Remember all the times you shouted, and danced for joy down those aisles?

Remember the night you came up to the front and stood right there in a healing line and God healed you instantly of cancer? The world can’t offer you that.

Look over there at the third pew where you’ve sat all these years. Remember that Sunday night you stood and testified about God healing you? Remember that?

Come over here to this door, look in here. This is the prayer room you always went to before service each night. You fought a lot of battles and won a lot of victories kneeling right there.

Please walk with me down this hall. Here is the Pastor’s office. He sure loves you. Think of the many times he’s given you counsel, direction and encouragement.

I know you’ll never forget how he would pray with you, and for you, before you left the room. I hope you can remember what that was like, because you won’t have anything like that anymore.

Now, we need to come back out into the auditorium and look it over real slow. Let the faces of each one come to mind as you look at where they sat during service. They loved you. They rejoiced and shouted the night you got saved. Those dear people will pray for you daily, when they realize you are gone. They will never give up on you.

Never forget how much you are loved here. We are going to miss you everyday. Don’t ever forget that the Lord truly loves you and gave His all for you!

Well, that pretty much concludes our little tour.

Aw, before you go, why don’t you kneel with me right here where you always pray, and then you can tell Jesus good-bye too…

He Prayed For The Big Church Across Town

with 19 comments

Pastor Miller hung the phone up and slumped into the chair. This was unbelievable! It was sickening. He sensed the pending devastation.

The voice mail on his cell phone announced that a 3rd couple in two months wanted to move their membership across town to the big church.

Only a handful of families were left here now. Would the nightmare ever stop? It was like a hemorrhage that was unending. The families that had left weren’t content to just go, they pulled on the remaining ones with reports of how wonderful things were at the new church. Their family and friends wavered in their loyalties. Who knew where it would stop. His church wasn’t growing. It was shrinking and he couldn’t stop the process.

No letter of transfer was ever asked for, and the other pastor had never called when someone moved in. He didn’t want to accuse the pastor across town of trying to proselyte, but the members there didn’t hesitate to do it for him.

The big church had quite a few people with money. They could afford to hire a full-time music director. They had also imported a youth pastor that was given full reign and a handsome expense account to attract and entertain young people. He did his job well, evidently. He personally encouraged all the young people in town to be a part of his youth group.

The bigger church had concerts, dramas, guitar driven worship, newer songs, fog machines, strobe lights, multimedia presentations, Power Points and many well-known guest speakers. A Starbucks type coffee shop was just down the hall from the entrance. The aroma always drew a crowd. Their church always had something going on there.

It was impossible for the pastor Miller’s small church to compete with the big boys. He had neither the resources nor the staff. He worked a secular job just to keep the wolf away from the door.

He had nearly broken his health trying to dig a church out of nothing. He had been ethical to a fault. He had never taken anyone from another church.

He personally had won most of the people in his church. He had taught almost every one there a Home Bible Study. He had prayed them through. He had baptized them. So this is the thanks he gets? How does he stop the migration? He didn’t want to feel jealous or harbor bad thoughts, but it still didn’t feel good. His wife was devastated. Now, there was little chance the church would be self-supporting anytime soon.

He knew the Pentecostals in town considered him “old school”.  He still had testimony service. His church even sang out of the songbook. They sang many choruses were those sung by previous generations.

A piano and a box guitar provided the music. They used to have a drummer, but he had moved across town to the big church.

Bro. Miller had never been invited to preach a special meeting in his life. He knew he never would be asked.

Two special needs adults in his church always caused distractions to visitors. One often spoke out loud at the wrong time and had to be treated like a child.

The $41.43 in the Sunday night offering last week didn’t pay much on the utilities or church payment. His people were poor. He had to help most of them survive. He had paid utilities for many of his people, helped a few times with their house payments. He’d even co-signed for a car, once or twice.

The girls in the big church called the young girls in his church ‘grandmas’. Their modest apparel was scorned as unnecessary. At the big church, not much was said about standards evidently. (That was an unkind thought he knew, but he’s not been impressed by what he’d seen in the mall.)

There was no one for pastor Miller to complain to, confide in or cry with. He privately wished that the Prophet Nathan would go across town and preach the story of the ‘one ewe lamb’ again. It seemed fitting.

When he heard reports about ‘revival’ and church growth across town, he knew where some of the growth had come from.

Life didn’t seem fair. He made up his mind that he would paste a smile on his face, keep doing his best to have good church, preach like there was a house full, not talk about those that left, and encourage the rest.

God would sort it all out some how. He was trying to help build God’s Kingdom, not his own. He would not allow a war to go on. He didn’t know what to do.

So Pastor Miller took advantage of his off-night and went to his church by himself. He went up to the altar in the empty sanctuary and knelt down to pray.

He only prayed for one thing. He prayed for the church across town. He prayed that God would give them a great harvest of souls. He prayed that God would abundantly bless them. He prayed for the Pastor, for their leaders, and for the members. He prayed for their finances and for their outreach efforts.

He prayed for them, like he wished someone, somewhere would pray for him. He prayed for the big church across town, like he wished someone would pray for the church he pastored.

The Night Shipment Of Tears

with 11 comments

The Night Shipment Of Tears

“The Night Shipment of Tears has arrived. We need to sort them first, according to the sender’s name, and then secondly by the fragrance of the prayer or tears. Make sure each golden bottle is properly sealed and labeled. They must be preserved and readily available for the 24 Elders when they bow before the Throne.

“Then, on this Leger here, I want you to enter today’s date, the sender’s name, and also the subject of their prayer, so we can sort these vials according to their specific odors.

“I don’t have to remind you to hurry, we’ve got more shipments on the way. A backlog is not acceptable.”

“The tears and the prayers of the saints have been captured on earth by our Angels and sealed into golden vials. They are Earth’s most prized possessions. There is nothing that the Lord counts more valuable than these.

“The tears of each prayer type have odors that only He can discern. It is the only earthly thing allowed to enter into this, the Holiest of all places.

“In a few more days, the Four and Twenty Elders will come and bow before His throne. They will bring their harps and they will bring these vials before the Lord.”

Michael the Archangel looked around at his fellow Angels. They all nodded their acceptance of the requests and turned to busy themselves.

They took each bottle and attached a small label that had this notation:

The vials were then stored in a large room of innumerable vessels holding the tears and the prayers of the saints. Their odors were a sweet-smelling fragrance that could only be enjoyed by the King of Kings.

(Your prayers and your tears are not unnoticed. They are not treated lightly. Heaven captures your tears and puts them into golden vials. Their fragrance will become the aroma around the throne of God.)

Psa. 56:8… put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

Rev. 5:8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
